6th September 2011 -  Strobist Lighting

Come and learn how to use light, it's easier than you think.  John Potter LRPS & Roger Walton LRPS will demonstrate the use of off-camera flash and help move your pictures up to the next level.

20th September 2011 -  Close-up & Macro Photography

A practical evening of close-up photography using professional Studio Flash equipment and smaller, off-camera, units. Don’t forget to bring your own camera kit as well as the items of interest you wish to feature in your pictures. 

*Please ensure that all entries for the Projected Image Competition are submitted. We must have entries at the meeting or earlier. No exceptions.

4th October 2011 -  Projected Image Competition A

Always a popular and eagerly awaited event. Come and see how your three, open images fare in a competition against those of other club members. Please be kind to the judge.

18th October 2011 -  Principles of Composition

 By popular request, our old friend and scholar Frank Ash will return to encourage and educate us in the difficult field of competent composition. He will surely enlighten our appreciation of pictures and guide us to achieve our own level of outstanding ‘visual impact’.

1st November 2011 - Patterns, Transformations & Repairs

Converging verticals & other distortions brought about by a combination of modern wide angle, zoom lenses and view point, can be easily addressed with image editing software. Come and find out how with  Bryan Oxley MAC  & Roger Walton LRPS.

 *Prepare for the ‘abstract patterns and designs from pictures’ challenge for the 3rd January meeting.

7th November 2011 - YENRIC

Don’t forget to come to Howden Camera Club & support Bishopthorpe at the first of this seasons inter-club competitions. This meetings special subject is ‘Urban’. Howden Camera Club can be found at Howden Masonic Hall, Selby Road, Howden, DN14 7JW.

15th November 2011 -  An Urban Odyssey

Don’t miss the distinctively different style of Erica Oram from Sheffield Photographic Society. She will demonstrate, by using traditional slides, her love for details and patterns in urban and natural landscapes. As the past editor of the YPU news, a judge and a lecturer, Erica has considerable photographic experience to share with you.

*Don’t forget to keep working on your prints for our 20th December print display. The theme is close-up photography. 

29th November 2011 - Print Competition

Please remember the rules for mounting and presenting your colour & monochrome prints on 40 X 50 cm board. Mounting in this way continues to make our displays & competitions look excellent.

13th December 2011 - My Favourite Things & Club Social

Featuring, in the first half of the meeting, two presentations on aspects of photography that interest and inspire our members Roger Poyser & Jo Sotudeh. We will finish the meeting with our seasonal nibbles and tipples accompanied by print displays from Jim Wilson & Chris Sharples. Expect a varied and stimulating evening of photography, fun & entertainment.

 *Don’t forget to keep working on your Patterns and designs for our first meeting back in the new year. Remember that your images will be eligible for entry into the projected Image Competition B and also the Yenric ‘Abstract Autumn” set subject competition. Your club needs your pictures!

 *Don’t forget to submit your prints for our 20th December print display. The theme is close-up photography.

20th December 2011 - Projected Image, Knockout Competition.

Remember to provide three digital images for projection so that fellow members will be able to choose their favourite by a process of elimination. Always a popular and fun night.

*Please ensure that submissions for the ‘Patterns & Designs’ challenge are submitted. We would prefer your work to be handed in during the evening. 

*There will be a club print exhibition this evening. The theme will be close-up photography

3rd January 2012 - Patterns and Designs from Members Pictures

An evening of interest and inspiration from your interpretation of patterns within your pictures. No matter how wacky or how much jiggery-pokery has been applied, we shall love it.
Projected images and prints.

 *Remember that your images will be eligible for entry into the projected Image Competition B and also the Yenric ‘Abstract Autumn” set subject competition. Your club needs your pictures!

16th January 2012 - YENRIC

Remember to support Bishopthorpe CC at the second of the inter-club competitions at Howden Camera Club. This meetings special subject is ‘Architecture’.

17th January 2012 -  Astro Photography: a beginners guide

You shouldn’t miss this evenings presentation when  Martin Whipp (Chairman) and Glen Berry (Vice Chairman) of The York Astronomical Society, come to share their enjoyment of Astronomy with us. They will demonstrate how we, as photographers, might get started and, to help them do this, they will be bringing some of their equipment along. This evening is bound to be out of this world!

31st January 2012 - Looking Up

Continuing with our theme of Architecture & Urban, we couldn’t do much better than the award winning commercial photographer, Tristan Poyser, who works within the built environment. Prepare to be amazed by his fantastic images.

7th February 2012 - Projected Image Competition B

Discover how your remaining three images for projection fare against the tough competition put up by other club members. Remember that one of your images should be for the Yenric set subject; ‘Abstract Autumn’. Can anyone feel some jiggery-pokery coming on?

21st February 2012 - An Octopus’s Garden

Despite the title, you wont need flippers and a snorkel tonight (unless it helps) because Morris Gregory of York Photographic Society has already done the ‘wet work’. Sit back and enjoy a fantastic evening of underwater photography. You’ll love it.

6th March 2012 - Portrait & Studio Evening

After the outstanding success of our last portrait and studio evening, we bring you yet another opportunity to hone your photographic skills. This time we will have a number of models, both male and female, in costume. Can you really afford to miss this golden opportunity to take some great character studies. Bring your camera kit and your imagination. 

20th March 2012 - Member's Audio Visual Night

An opportunity to showcase your slideshows with sound. As the last AV night demonstrated, there are many formats and platforms from which Audio Visual can be produced. Come and show the club what you can do. Stephen Spielberg move over.

*Please ensure that all entries for the Portfolio Competition are submitted. We must have entries at the meeting or earlier. No exceptions.

17th April 2012 - Portfolio Night

Your portfolio set of six mounted prints or six images for projection, all on a theme of your own choosing, will be judged this evening for photographic competence and overall coherence. The Portfolio must have a unifying title and members are invited to include with their entry a short statement of how the images are all linked together. 

*Don’t forget to keep working on your prints for our end of season print display on 12th June 2012.

1st May 2012 - Night Photography in York

The club house will be well and truly locked tonight. Instead we shall be meeting in York for an evening of architectural study as the sky darkens and the street lights come on. Bring your camera gear and tripod, if you have one. You are invited to submit at least one of your pictures taken on this evening for the next meetings appreciation & critique.

15th May 2012 - Members Evening: Photo Appreciation & Critique

Take this opportunity to both present your pictures for discussion and also view and discuss the pictures of other members. In particular we shall be looking at pictures taken on our Night Photography in York and also our Portrait and Studio evening. 

*Please ensure that all entries for the Annual Competitions are submitted. We must have entries at the meeting or earlier. No exceptions 

*Don’t forget your contribution to our end of season  Print Display on the 12th June.  Competition entries may be used.

29th May 2012 - Annual Print Competition

Our end of season celebration of the best in the club. Even if you haven’t entered anything in the competitions, come and see what makes Bishopthorpe Camera Club so special.

12th June 2012 - Annual Projected Image Competition

*Display of members prints that reflect this seasons theme. Competition entries may be used. This display is not competitive but it will be brilliant!  Or else!         

19th June 2012 - A.G.M. Certificates & Trophies

The Annual General Meeting is your chance to participate in how the club is run.
 The AGM will be followed by the presentation of trophies & certificates.
