Supplementary activities for the 2011 - 2012 Season
| |
The following contains all
supplementary activities organised on behalf of
and/or requested by club members. Unlike the
published programme this list will be ongoing.
Events will be added as the season progresses,
starting with our summer activities. Check here
regularly.
Should you wish to participate in an event, and
we hope you will, please contact the relevant
organiser.
Note that events cannot take place unless there
is sufficient interest and involvement. This
also means putting your ideas forward for
events. Be prepared to participate in the
organisation and help your committee make an
event happen. So please contact us with your
ideas. We want to hear from you.
Be aware that some
events will require monetary support in order to
pay any additional charges not covered by the
membership fee - e.g. room hire, speakers
expenses etc. We shall attempt to keep any
charge to the minimum but it will depend on the
number of attendees at each event.

Tuesday
14th February -
“An Introduction to
Portrait Photography"
Rob Rivron who has
considerable experience and expertise in this
kind of work has kindly offered to provide an
extra session for interested members.
N.B. - this is not a full hands-on practical
session, that's for our March evening.
The aim this time is to stimulate ideas and
confidence in using the equipment.
|
"This is mainly for those who
would like to step up from the ‘snapshot’ to a
more ‘formal portrait’ shot of friends
and family members.
A short
presentation dealing with equipment, technique
and lighting (Including window lighting) will be
followed by a basic setup with two studio
lights for members to shoot ‘Head & Shoulders’
portraits based on suggestions given in the
presentation. "

Thursday 26th January - "Cuppa & Capture"
Theme: 'Strength and Power'
A really good turnout of
members met at the National Trust cafe where we
were made very welcome - no trouble is too much
for their very helpful staff.
After a light lunch we all
set out to see what we could make of another
testing subject.
You can see some of the results by following the
link to our Galleries.

Sunday 23rd October 2011 - "Cuppa &
Capture" |
Meet at 12 noon at York City Art Gallery |
|
|
Theme for the shoot: ‘Large &
Small” - subjects for this theme could include
say chimney pots, modes of transport e.g. a bike
and a bus, a goose and a sparrow, etc.
The large and the small item should be shown in
the same shot.
The "Cuppa & Capture" Gallery has selected
images from this session.

10th October 2011 - "Cuppa & Capture" |
Meet at 12 noon at York City Art Gallery |
|
|
The topic this time is "Repetition"
-
images of repeated patterns,
shapes or any object (wheels, leaves, ducks);
the list is endless.
Even though it was raining persistently all day,
some members braved the weather and managed to
get some interesting shots, in between much
drinking (of tea or coffee, of course.)
Visit the Gallery to see a selection from this
session.

Rob Rivron has kindly offered to organise the
Cuppa & Capture meetings. It is intended
that they will be held on different days each
time in order to allow as many people as
possible to be involved.
If anyone has any queries Rob would be happy for
them to telephone (01904 646401) or email
(robert@rivron.co.uk).
As this activity is
becoming increasingly popular, we've given it a
gallery all to itself!

26th September 2011 - Bishopthorpe Camera Club
‘Cuppa & Capture’ meeting.
Meet at 1 pm in King's Square, York for
a cuppa in the Harlequin Cafe.
The topic for the shoot is
"Contrast & Architecture".
Open to all, the cuppa & capture meeting is just
a social gathering of club members. We meet to
enjoy a quick cuppa and perhaps, for the more
wicked of us, a sticky bun. Then we go forth
into York with our cameras and attempt to
interpret the topic of the day through the
picture we take.
After
a suitable interval (to be agreed) we reconvene
at the cafe to share our experiences and perhaps
give one another a ‘sneak peak’ at what we have
captured. There may even be another sticky bun
to enjoy!
Once
home, we share our pictures via e-mail and Roger
will select some to put on our web site - how
much better can things get on the fun scale?

22nd August 2011 "Cuppa & Capture"
|
meeting at 1 pm in York Art Gallery
cafe.
|
|
|
Club members Derrick Burdett
and Rob Rivron have been meeting informally to
take photos during the "closed season".
They have very kindly agreed to expand their
sessions to include any other members who are
interested and able to join them.
The idea of these sessions is
to have a good time indulging in things
photographic in a leisurely way but at the same
time to gain knowledge and experience of the
subject by networking with each other. By
setting a ‘theme’ or subject for the shoot it
ensures that everyone looks for images that they
would not normally think of photographing. At
the end of the day we should all be able to
select say 3 images that demonstrate the set
theme.

the shots from the afternoon
