GR N53.91620 W1.79894 – OS Ref SE 132466
We hope you will enjoy this BCC Photo Walk and that the opportunity provides encouragement for
you to develop further photographic skills and to become more creative in your image making.
Please park up in the free car park just below the Cow & Calf Rocks, Cowpasture Road, Ilkley. We
will all meet there for a brief chat at 10.30 am before setting off on our walk.
Preparation: Most of the walk will be off road on a mixture of moorland paths and tracks., walking
boots and long trousers are recommended. It is suggested you consider taking some food and drink
with you as none will be available during the course of the walk.
Communications: Please refer to the WhatsApp Group ‘BCC Photo Walks’. Don’t forget to look out
for any last minute announcements!
It is intended for these walks to be informal with everyone going at their own pace and pausing to
take photographs when the fancy takes them. Hence, you are responsible for your own navigation
and safety. If you are not confident at navigation, then please travel with other people in a group
with at least one person comfortable in map reading and navigational skills, that way you know you
will be safe in this respect. Please carry a phone with you at all times and bear in mind there may
not be a signal everywhere you go.
The WALK approx 4.5 Miles:
The walk takes in the Cow and Calf rocks at Ilkley. Passes in front of and later above The Pancake
Stone. We walk across Ilkley Moor on our way to the famous Twelve Apostles Bronze Age Standing
Stone Ring offering extensive views in all directions. From The Twelve Apostles we pass by Gill Head
and White Wells. White Wells, a fascinating building built in 1700, contains an ancient plunge bath
fed by a local spring. White Wells may or may not be open on the day. We continue our walk past
Ilkley Tarn to The Cow & Calf Rocks before returning to our cars.
If the weather and lighting is suitable for creative image making this walk could easily take 5 hours or
more to complete.
Following the walk it is suggested we meet up at The Cow and Calf Hotel near to where we started
our walk for a coffee and chat afterwards. A time will not be specified as we could well arrive at
different times but I am sure we will bump into each other somehow. The Hotel is open all day
Remember to post your photos from the walk on the BCC Photowalks Facebook Page
You are responsible for your own well being and safety at all times, please respect the countryside
and enjoy your day out.
