Richard Revels (FRPS) is a Natural History Photographer whose interest in butterflies brought him into nature photography some 40 years ago. He photographs a wide range of natural history subjects, ranging from Bugs to Birds, Snakes to Mammals, Orchids to the Weather, and as he says “everything else that I find as I travel the countryside.”
In 1983 he joined the Royal Photographic Society, gaining his Fellowship in 1984. He has recently retired after many years serving on the RPS Natural History Distinctions Panel.
Richard travels widely speaking to Wildlife and Conservation groups and Camera Clubs in the UK. His Photo Library contains tens of thousands of images, many of which have been widely published.
Richard will show work showcasing a wide range of Britain’s nature in close up: extreme close-ups of orchid seeds less than 1 mm long; butterfly eggs that are only slightly larger; various kinds of insects including some photographed in flight using high speed flash; fungi and lichens and other plant life; and life histories of butterflies and wasps. The talk will also include a sequence showing a dragonfly hovering. During the show he will explain the various techniques and equipment he uses to capture his images.
