 Bishopthorpe Camera Club

Competitions provide an opportunity to share our photographs with other club members while also hearing an independent assessment of them.  The judges comments are usually informative and useful pointers as to how we might improve.

During the season ...

A Knockout competition - a "fun" event, not to be taken too seriously!

A Print competition, for mounted prints. (Mount size: 50 x 40 cm).  You can enter a maximum of three colour prints and three monochrome prints.

Projected image competitions - there are two of these.  You can enter three images for projection in each competition.
Please use the image title as the file name.

Digital images will be resized to fit into a frame 1400 pixels wide by 1050 pixels high. It is helpful, but not essential, if you can resize your images prior to submission.  Images can be emailed directly to the competition secretary or brought to meetings on a cd or memory stick.

Portfolio competition - six prints (mounted) or six projected images on a theme of the author's choosing.

At the end of the season ...

Annual competition - for projected images - rules as above.

Annual competition for prints - rules as above.

In all competitions, except the Knockout which everyone judges, we invite judges to give additional marks for "Imagination".

Annual awards are made at Beginner and Advanced Level for the "Club Competition" (which aggregates marks from the Print, Projected image and Portfolio competitions which take place during the season),  for the Portfolio Competition and for the two Annual Competitions.
The member who has the highest aggregate imagination marks will receive the Tom Duston memorial bowl.

Members decide whether they wish to enter the Beginners or Advanced class. NB only one class for every competition during a season!
New members normally (but not necessarily) start in the beginners class and move up when they have had some success at the level.
The committee will advise members who they believe to be in the wrong class.

The Competition Rules, Entry Forms (required for the annual competition only), and advice on mounting prints and preparing digital images and slides for projection are to be found in the Resources area.  The club has a mount cutter which may be borrowed by arrangement with the competition secretary.
